Access to the Internet is an important resource for students at all campuses of The Pennsylvania State University. As academic and extracurricular activities become more reliant on access to an internet connection, it is imperative that the students of the university have access to Internet on campus.

Wireless Internet access is a resource of ever-increasing importance. As Wi-Fi becomes a primary method of connecting to the Internet for many laptops, smartphones, and tablets, fast and reliable wireless connections will become a staple in students’ everyday lives.

To this regard, it is the position of the student members of The Student Technology Advisory Committee that:

  • A student should have access to Wi-Fi as long as he or she is a registered student of the university in all university facilities where internet access is provided, including but not limited to:
Academic Classrooms, Auditoriums, Residence Halls, Individual Student Housing, Dining Facilities, Student Union Buildings, Meeting Spaces, and Event Spaces.
  • Tuition and fees should not increase due to changes in Wi-Fi infrastructure, installation, and/or management.
  • Wi-Fi should be available and compatible for student use on any device required, suggested, or able to complete academic and extracurricular work with a proper network authentication.
  • Wi-Fi should be easy to set up, easy to connect, fast, reliable, and consistent, regardless of location.
