2015/16 Meetings to be Scheduled

The 2015/16 session of the Student Technology Advisory Committee is currently being scheduled, and nominations are sought from student governments for open positions. This year we will be continuing our planning around student email and collaboration systems. We will also be focusing on IT in the classroom and informal learning spaces around the university.

Our February STAC meeting is tomorrow in 111 HUB from 3-4:30. I have invited John Corro from ITS Security Operations Services to share some really important information with you. Some issues that we want to get on your radar screens as you have conversation with other members of student government and with students in general. Also, I am hoping that @Rishi Mittal can provide us with a bit of a drill down on some of the details related to student mobile app needs and desires. Hi all … we were going to spend time discussing several mobile initiatives and gathering feedback on where our mobile strategy should be headed, but key ITS staff are traveling this week so we will push that to December. In addition to those conversations, we will have an overview of the IT Strategic Planning process from Associate Vice Provost Kevin Moorney and a discussion of the FACAC Student Survey results from Dr. John Harwood. Strategic Planning check up — All responses in yammer by close of the day next Wednesday October 24, 2012.

Introductions and overview of the STAC for guests.

Chris Lucas and Nathan Cullier outlining ITS Training Services.  Focus is on the Student Tech Tutors program.  Highlights:

– average consultations are 32 minutes
– in Knowledge Commons (84% of consultations), Pollock, Electronic (via the email address that originally was designed for getting information about applying for a job)
– Fills the gap for software support — not tech support or media support
– Top 5 — Excel, ANGEL, MT, Photoshop, Word, PPT
– Spreading the word … at the moment it is coming via word of mouth, through popular classes, facebook, twitter, yammer, signage, custom business cards
– Currently thinking about how we would extend this service to the campuses

October 2012 STAC Agenda

Hi all … looking forward to seeing everyone for tomorrow’s STAC meeting. Our meeting will be in 118 Wagner from 3:00-4:30. Our agenda will be primarily updates about three very student-centric services that you may not know about. Both the Student Tech Tutors program and the WordPress at PSU services are new this year, while the Educational Gaming Commons is something you may want to know more about. My hope is that we can have a general discussion about how we make more students aware of these services and services like these.
